This guide explains how to use your M3U IPTV link with Northline IPTV: what the link is, when it is the right choice, how to add it inside an app or on a publisher’s website, how to handle a large playlist on a small device, and how to keep the link private. The link opens exactly the same content as your Xtream Codes login. Only the way it is delivered to the player is different.
We send your access by e-mail within minutes of your order. Depending on your order, it includes Xtream Codes details, an M3U link, or both. If you need the M3U link and cannot find it in your e-mail, ask our support team; we will tell you what your order includes and how to get the format your player needs. For the full setup route, from the access e-mail to the first channel, start with our setup overview.
Our advice in one line: if your player offers Xtream Codes, use that and keep the M3U link as a backup. If your player accepts a playlist only, the M3U link is exactly what it needs, and this page tells you how to add it cleanly.
M3U IPTV in brief
Before the details, here is the whole subject in four tiles. Each one is covered in its own section further down.
One address
A single link that points the player to your complete playlist.
Login inside
Your username and password are part of the link. It is private by nature.
Smart TV friendly
Many smart TV players take a playlist link, often through the publisher’s website.
Heavier first load
The player reads the whole list at once. Small devices need patience the first time.
None of these points is a drawback in itself. They are simply the character of the format. Knowing them in advance turns the first load from a worry into something you expected, and turns the privacy rule from a warning into common sense.
What this means for you: M3U is the simplest way to set up a player that asks for a playlist. One paste, a short wait, and you are watching. The price of that simplicity is a heavier first load and, on some players, less tidy sorting.
What an M3U IPTV link is
M3U is a playlist format. Picture a long text list in which each entry gives three things: a channel name, the group it belongs to, and the address the player should open to play it. Your M3U link points to that list on our service, built for your login.
When you paste the link, the player reads the whole list in one go and then builds its own menus from it: groups down one side, entries inside each group. That is why the first load can take longer than with Xtream Codes, which lets the player fetch one section at a time.
The link stays the same for the whole duration you chose. You do not paste it again each time you open the player; the player stores it and reloads the list when it needs to. If anything about your access changes, for example after a new order or a change of pack, we tell you by e-mail. You then replace the old link in your player and the menus rebuild themselves.
The list itself lives on our side, not in your player. You never need to edit it, save it or move it between devices. Each device that holds the link simply reads it again when it needs to. That keeps every screen in your home on the same, current catalogue.
Why a link rather than a saved list
Some people expect to receive a playlist as an attachment they can keep. We send a link on purpose. A saved list would be a snapshot that ages as the catalogue moves, and every device would need a new copy after each change. A link always points to the current list for your access, and it stops working cleanly when your period ends, so an outdated copy can never linger on a forgotten device.
M3U or Xtream Codes: how to decide
Both formats give you the same pack and the same catalogue. The question is which one your player handles best, and which one is easier to enter on your device.
| Situation | Our advice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your player accepts a playlist URL only | Use the M3U link | It is the only format the player can read |
| You add the playlist on a publisher’s website with your TV’s MAC address | Use the M3U link, unless the site offers Xtream Codes | Most of these sites ask for a playlist link |
| Your player offers both options | Use Xtream Codes, keep M3U as a backup | Section-by-section loading and cleaner menus |
| Typing three fields with a remote is a struggle | Use the M3U link, pasted from a phone or computer | One paste instead of three typed fields |
| Your device is old and loads slowly | Try Xtream Codes first | It is usually lighter on memory |
| Live, series and movies arrive mixed together | Try Xtream Codes in the same player | Players separate content more reliably with it |
Smart TV players such as IBO Player and Smart IPTV usually take the M3U link on the publisher’s website, linked to your TV by its MAC address. Our IBO Player guide shows that process in full. For three-field logins, see our Xtream Codes setup guide.
What this means for you: the format is a practical choice, not a quality choice. The picture, the catalogue and the connection rule are identical. Choose whichever gets you watching with the fewest typing errors on your device.
Where your M3U link comes from
Your access e-mail is the only place your link should come from. It arrives within minutes of a confirmed payment and contains the format or formats included with your order.
If the link is not in your e-mail
Some orders come with Xtream Codes details only. If your player needs a playlist link and you cannot find one, write to support by e-mail or on WhatsApp at +33 6 44 65 43 13, 7 days a week, in English or French. Give the e-mail address you used at checkout and the name of your player. We will tell you what your order includes and how to proceed.
Never use a playlist link that comes from anywhere else. Links shared in forums, chats or videos are not yours, are not supported by us and can expose your device to content and apps you did not choose. The only link that belongs to your access is the one we send you.
The same goes for the reverse direction. We never ask you to send us your M3U link, and nobody acting for Northline IPTV will ask you to paste it into a website or a message. If you receive such a request, do not follow it, and tell support where it came from.
Keep the access e-mail where you can find it again. You will need the link each time you add a new device, reinstall a player or change apps. Pinning or starring the message in your mail app is enough. If you receive a new access e-mail after a new order, keep that one and archive the old one, so you never paste an outdated link by mistake.
Before you paste the link
A minute of preparation saves most M3U frustrations. Check these points on the device you are setting up.
- You have the full link, from the very first character to the very last. Long links sometimes wrap onto two lines in an e-mail.
- Your player is installed from your device’s official app store, and you have checked whether its publisher charges a licence.
- Your device is online, with about 10 Mbps for HD, 15 Mbps for Full HD or 25 Mbps for 4K on that screen.
- You have a few minutes for the first load. A large catalogue needs patience.
- No other device is playing with the same login right now.
- If the player uses a publisher’s website, you have a phone or computer ready, and the TV is showing its MAC address or device key.
One more check is easy to forget: the device’s own date and time. A device whose clock is far off can refuse secure connections, and some players then report the playlist as unreachable even though the link is correct. Setting the clock to automatic before you start avoids that, and it also gives you a correct TV guide from the first evening.
The size of the first load depends on your pack. The VIP Premium Pack, for example, includes 27,000+ channels, 61,000+ series and 155,000+ movies, in HD, Full HD and 4K. That is a lot of entries for a playlist. A recent box reads it comfortably; an older stick takes longer. Compare all packs and durations on the plans page.
How to add your M3U IPTV link inside an app
The exact menu names change from one player to another. The order of the steps stays the same. This is the route for players that accept the link directly inside the app.
- Copy the full link. Open your access e-mail on a phone or computer. Press and hold or select the link, then copy it. Do not retype it unless you have no other choice.
- Open the player’s playlist option. Look for wording such as add playlist, M3U URL or load your playlist.
- Name the playlist. Choose a short name, such as Northline, so you can tell it apart from any other entry.
- Paste the link. Paste it into the URL field. Move to the end of the field and check for a stray space or a missing character.
- Confirm the guide option. If the player asks whether to load a TV guide for this playlist, say yes.
- Save and wait. The player reads the whole list. Leave it alone until the groups appear, even if it takes a few minutes.
- Play and check. Start a live channel, then a series and a movie. Compare the guide with your clock.
If you must type the link with a remote, go slowly and check each part as you go. A single wrong character makes the whole link fail, and the player will usually not tell you which character is wrong. If typing is the only option, the next sections give you ways around it.
The kind of form a player shows for an M3U link. Names differ from app to app; the link always comes from your e-mail.
Adding the link on a publisher’s website
Many smart TV players work differently. Instead of a field inside the TV app, they show an identifier on the TV screen, usually the TV’s MAC address and sometimes a device key. You go to the publisher’s official website on a phone or computer, enter that identifier, and paste your M3U link there. The app on the TV then picks up the playlist the next time it starts.

The website route, step by step
- Open the player on the TV and note the MAC address and any device key it shows.
- On your phone or computer, open the publisher’s official website and find its playlist page.
- Enter the identifier exactly as the TV shows it.
- Paste your M3U link and give the playlist a name.
- Save, then fully close and reopen the player on the TV.
What a publisher’s playlist page typically asks for. Use only the publisher’s official website.
Two cautions apply. First, use only the publisher’s official website, reached from the player’s own instructions, never a site suggested in a comment or a video. You are typing a private link into it. Second, the publisher may charge a licence for its app; check the current price on the app’s official website. That licence is between you and the publisher. We are independent from app publishers and do not sell or manage their licences.
The smart TV guide explains when this route makes sense and when an external device is the easier choice.
M3U IPTV on each device family
Where you add the link, and how hard it is to enter, depends mostly on the device. Here is how the families we support compare for an M3U setup.
| Device | Where the link usually goes | Entering it | Our guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung or LG smart TV | On the publisher’s website, linked by MAC address | Easy: pasted from a phone or computer | Smart TVs |
| Android TV or Google TV box | Inside the player | Harder with a remote; easier with a keyboard or phone app | Android box |
| Fire TV Stick | Inside the player | Harder with a remote; first load slower on small memory | Firestick |
| Apple TV | Inside the player, from the App Store | Easier with the remote app on an iPhone | Apple TV |
| iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet | Inside the player | Easy: copy from the e-mail, paste in the app | IPTV Smarters Pro |
| PC | Inside a player from your system’s official app store | Easy: copy and paste | Apps overview |
The pattern is simple. Wherever you can paste, M3U is quick. Wherever you must type with a remote, it is the slowest format to enter, and Xtream Codes, with its three short fields, is often easier. Smart TVs that use a publisher’s website turn that around: the link is pasted on a phone, so M3U becomes the easy route on the biggest screen in the house.
On boxes and sticks, look in the player for a way to receive text from a phone. Some players offer a short code or a local web page for this. Others work with a keyboard app on your phone that types into the TV. Either way, you paste once on the phone and the long link arrives on the TV intact.
What this means for you: decide the format per device, not per household. M3U on the smart TV and Xtream Codes on the stick is a perfectly sensible combination.
Copying a long link without errors
M3U links are long and unforgiving. Most failed M3U setups come down to how the link was copied, not to the link itself. These habits prevent nearly all of them.
Some mail apps break a long address. Copying only the first line leaves the link incomplete.
Then: press and hold the link itself to copy it wholeTyping letter by letter invites mistakes between similar characters.
Then: use the publisher’s website or a phone keyboard app where possibleSome devices add a space at the end of pasted text. It is invisible and breaks the link.
Then: move to the end of the field and delete itThe link is right; the copy on the TV is not.
Then: delete the playlist on the TV and add it again by pastingTip from our support team. Send the link to yourself in a private note on your phone, then copy it from there into the player or the publisher’s website. Delete the note afterwards. This avoids typing errors without leaving the link in a shared place such as a family group chat.
If the player says the playlist is invalid or empty, do not edit the link by hand to “fix” it. Copy it again from the e-mail. If a fresh copy still fails, the cause is more likely the player, the connection or the access status, and the sections below cover each of those.
Large playlists and older devices
Our catalogue is large. A long playlist puts real work on a small device the first time it loads. Here are the symptoms you may meet, what they mean and what to do.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The first load is slow | The player is reading the whole list | Let it finish. Later loads are usually quicker |
| The app closes during loading | The device may lack memory for a very long list | Close other apps, restart the device, then try again |
| It keeps closing after a restart | The list is too heavy for this device as an M3U | Switch to Xtream Codes, which loads in smaller parts |
| Live, movies and series are mixed | The player does not separate them from an M3U list | Use search and favourites, or switch to Xtream Codes |
| A group you expect is missing | The player is showing an older stored copy | Use the player’s update or reload playlist option |
| Scrolling is slow in long groups | Too many entries drawn at once | Hide groups you never watch |
The stored copy deserves a word. Players keep a copy of the playlist so they can open faster next time. Most have an option to update or reload it. Use that option after a pack change, or if something you expect does not appear. If the list still looks wrong after a reload, remove the playlist and add the link again; that forces a completely fresh read.
What this means for you: a slow first load on an older device is normal, not a fault. A device that cannot finish the load at all is telling you to try the lighter format, or a more recent device for that screen. The devices overview compares the options.
Your choice of pack plays a part too. The larger the catalogue, the longer the list. If a small device is your only screen and it struggles with a large playlist, the Premium Pack’s smaller catalogue may suit it better than the largest pack. The what is included page sets the three catalogues side by side.
Organising an M3U playlist
Once the playlist has loaded, a few minutes of tidying make every evening quicker. This matters more with M3U than with Xtream Codes, because the player has a single long list to work with.
- First
Hide unused groups
Most players let you hide whole groups. The list gets shorter and lighter at once.
- Then
Build favourites
Mark the channels you return to. Many players show them as their own group.
- Next
Learn the search
With a long list, search is often faster than scrolling, especially for series and movies.
- Last
Set the start screen
Where offered, open the player straight on favourites rather than on the full list.
Use the player’s own options for all of this. Do not try to edit the link or the list behind it to remove groups. The link must stay exactly as we sent it; hiding and favourites happen inside the player, on that device, and are undone just as easily.
Favourites and hidden groups belong to the player on each device. If you add the same link to a second device, you will tidy it again there. If you remove the playlist and add it back, you may lose them. That is how players store these preferences, and we cannot sync them from our side.
The TV guide with an M3U link
The guide comes with your login in both formats. With an M3U link, some players load it automatically, some ask you to confirm it when you add the playlist, and a few need a separate guide setting turned on afterwards.
If the guide is empty after the first load, refresh it from the player’s menu and give it a little time. If it stays empty, look in the playlist’s settings for a guide or EPG option. If programmes show at the wrong hour, the cause is almost always your device’s time zone, not the link. Our TV guide setup page explains the fix for every Canadian time zone, including Saskatchewan and Newfoundland.
An empty guide is about loading. A shifted guide is about the clock. Neither is fixed by changing the link.
A quick comparison helps when you are unsure. If the same player shows a complete guide when you add the Xtream Codes details instead, the player handles playlist guides less well. Keep whichever setup gives you a complete guide and remove the other, so your lists are not doubled.
Choose the pack that fits your device
Every pack includes the M3U and Xtream Codes formats as ordered. Compare catalogue sizes and durations.
When the M3U link stops working
A link that worked yesterday and fails today has a reason. These are the usual ones, in the order we check them.
Access stops at the end of the duration you chose. Nothing renews automatically.
Then: place a new order and use the link from the new e-mailA new order may come with a new link. The old one in your player is out of date.
Then: replace the link and remove the old playlistEach pack includes one simultaneous connection.
Then: stop the other device and try againSome updates clear stored playlists or settings.
Then: add the link again from your e-mailA playlist that will not load can simply mean the device is offline.
Then: test another app, restart the routerIf none of these applies, write to us with your player, your device and a photo of the message on screen. We check the status of your access on our side and tell you plainly what we see. The can’t connect guide covers login errors in more depth, and the buffering guide covers a playlist that loads but pauses.
One quick test narrows it down before you write. Add the same link to a phone player and try it there. If it loads on the phone, the link and your access are working, and the problem sits with the first device or its copy of the link. If it fails on the phone too, tell us that in your message; it points us straight to the access side.
Keep your M3U IPTV link private
Your M3U link is not a public playlist. It carries your username and password inside the address. Anyone who has the link has your login.
Safe habits
- Keep the link in your access e-mail and in your players only
- Copy through a private note, then delete the note
- Use only the publisher’s official website for smart TV players
- Remove the playlist from any device you sell or give away
Never do this
- Post the link in a forum, a chat or a comment
- Share it with a relative or friend in another home
- Paste it into a website you reached from an unknown link
- Send a screenshot of your access e-mail to anyone
Treat the link like a password. Your login is for your household only. Each pack includes one simultaneous connection, so another household using your link takes that connection and stops your own viewing. Need more screens at once? Ask support: they will explain the conditions and the price.
If you think your link has been exposed, contact us by e-mail or WhatsApp straight away. Support is open 7 days a week, in English and French. Tell us what happened and we will explain the next steps for your access.
Signs that a link may be in use elsewhere are easy to spot: playback stops at times when nobody else in your home is watching, or a device reports that the connection is already in use when every screen in the house is off. If you notice either, check your own devices first, then write to us.
Using one M3U link on several devices
You can add the same link to several devices in your home. The living room TV, a stick in the bedroom and a tablet can all hold it. What you cannot do is play on two of them at once, because each pack includes one simultaneous connection.

A tidy multi-device setup
- Add the link to the main TV first and check it fully.
- Then add it to the other devices, by pasting each time.
- Use Xtream Codes on devices that offer it, and M3U where they do not.
- Close the player on a device when you finish watching.
Mixing formats causes no problem on our side: one device can use the M3U link while another uses Xtream Codes. They are the same login, so the one-connection rule counts them together. If the bedroom stick is playing through the M3U link, the living room TV on Xtream Codes waits its turn.
If your household needs several screens playing at the same time, ask through the contact page. Support explains the conditions and the price for your case. We do not publish a fixed multi-screen offer.
Moving between M3U and Xtream Codes
You are never locked into the format you started with. If an M3U setup feels heavy, or if you change to a player that prefers the other format, moving is quick.
- Check that your access e-mail contains the other format; if not, ask support.
- Add the new format as a new account or playlist in the player.
- Let it load fully and test live, series and movies.
- Rebuild favourites and hidden groups on the new entry.
- Remove the old entry so the lists are not doubled and nobody opens it by mistake.
Doing it in this order means you are never without a working setup. The old entry stays in place until the new one has proved itself. The Xtream Codes guide explains the three fields if you are moving in that direction, and the apps overview helps if the move comes with a new player.
Moving the other way, from Xtream Codes to M3U, usually happens for one reason: a new smart TV player that accepts a playlist only. The same rule applies. Add the link, let the new player load fully, confirm the guide, then remove whatever you no longer use. Your catalogue does not change in either direction.
M3U IPTV mistakes we see most
Support sees the same handful of M3U mistakes again and again. Each is easy to avoid once you know it exists.
- Copying half a link. The mail app wrapped the address and only the first line was copied. Press and hold the link itself instead of selecting text.
- Typing instead of pasting. A long link typed with a remote almost always contains one wrong character. Use a phone, a keyboard app or the publisher’s website.
- Adding both formats to one player. The player shows every group twice and loads twice as long. Keep one format per player.
- Keeping an old link after a new order. The player holds an outdated address beside the new one. Replace it and remove the old playlist.
- Closing the app during the first load. The player starts over each time. Let it finish once, however slow it seems.
- Using a website suggested by someone else. For smart TV players, use only the publisher’s official website, reached from the player’s own instructions.
- Editing the link to remove groups. The link stops working. Hide groups in the player instead.
If you recognise one of these after the fact, there is no harm done. Remove the playlist, copy the link again from your access e-mail and add it cleanly. A fresh start takes a few minutes and clears every one of these problems.

FAQ
Where is my M3U link?
In your access e-mail, sent within minutes of your order, depending on the formats your order includes. If you only see Xtream Codes details and need the link, ask our support team.
Is the M3U link different from my Xtream Codes login?
It opens the same content. The link packs your login into one address; Xtream Codes splits it into three fields.
Why does my M3U playlist take so long to load?
The catalogue is large and the player reads it all at once. Let the first load finish. On older devices, Xtream Codes is often quicker.
Can I use my link in two players?
Yes, on devices in your own home. Only one device can play at a time, because each pack includes one simultaneous connection.
The link works on my phone but not on my TV. Why?
Usually a typing error on the TV, or a missing character at the end. Paste the link from a phone or computer instead of typing it.
Can I edit the playlist to remove groups?
Do not edit the link. Use the player’s options to hide groups and build favourites instead.
Why are live channels, series and movies mixed together?
Some players do not separate them when reading an M3U list. Use search and favourites, or switch to Xtream Codes in the same player.
Do I need to add the link again after a new order?
Check the new access e-mail. If the link changed, replace it in each player and remove the old playlist.
Is the TV guide included with the M3U link?
Yes. Some players load it automatically; others need a guide option turned on in the playlist settings.
What should I do if my link has been shared by mistake?
Contact support by e-mail or WhatsApp straight away and explain what happened. We will tell you the next steps for your access.
