IBO Player

How IBO Player uses your TV's MAC address and device key, how to add your playlist, and how the publisher licence works.

Northline IPTV team · 24 min read · updated October 20, 2026
IBO Player

IBO Player is an independent player, common on Samsung and LG smart TVs and also found on Android devices. Install it from your device's official app store.

The app shows a MAC address and a device key. You enter both on the publisher's official website, add your playlist there, and the TV collects it.

The publisher charges a licence per device after a starting period. We do not sell it. Check the current price on the app's official website.

This guide explains how IBO Player works with your Northline IPTV login. It covers what the MAC address and the device key are, how to add your playlist through the publisher’s website, how the licence fits next to your plan with us, and what to check when the playlist does not appear. The method is different from most players, so read it through once before you pick up the remote.

Most players ask you to type your login on the TV itself, one letter at a time with the arrow keys. IBO Player turns that around. You add the login on a phone or computer, on the publisher’s site, and the television fetches it. That saves a lot of typing. It also adds a few rules that are worth knowing in advance, and this page sets them out plainly.

What IBO Player is, and how it differs from other players

IBO Player is a player made by an independent publisher. It is often chosen on Samsung and LG televisions, where the list of available players is shorter than on a TV box. It also exists on Android devices. Like every player, it contains no channels of its own. It is empty until you give it a playlist.

The difference lies in how the playlist reaches the screen. When you open the app, it displays two codes. The MAC address identifies the device. The device key is a second code that proves you are the person holding that device. With both codes, the publisher’s website knows which television should receive the playlist you add.

You use a browserPublisher’s official site
You add the playlistFrom your welcome e-mail

What this means for you: your playlist is attached to one television. If you replace that TV, or install the app on a second one, the new device shows a new MAC address and needs its own setup. Nothing about your Northline IPTV plan changes when that happens. Only the publisher’s side is tied to the hardware.

We are independent from the publisher. We do not run its website, we cannot log in to it, and we cannot see the playlists stored there. Our part is the login we e-mail you and the content behind it. The rest belongs to the app and to you.

Where IBO Player fits among the players we support

We work with six players. IBO Player is the one we point to most often for a Samsung or LG television, alongside Smart IPTV. On a TV box, a stick or a phone, other players usually make more sense. This comparison shows why.

If your main screen is a box or a stick, you will probably be more comfortable with a player you set up directly on the device. Our TiviMate guide covers Android TV boxes and the Fire TV Stick, and our IPTV Smarters Pro guide covers phones, tablets and boxes. The comparison of all six players is on the apps page.

If the television is the screen you use every evening and you would rather not add a box, IBO Player is a sensible route. The extra step through the website is a one-time job per TV.

Is IBO Player the right choice for your home

Before you spend time on codes and websites, check that IBO Player matches the way your household watches. The cards below cover the situations we hear about most often from Canadian homes setting up a television for the first time.

If the TV is your only screen

IBO Player or Smart IPTV keeps everything on one remote, with no extra device plugged in.

Then: follow this guide from the next section
If you already own a TV box or stick

A player set up on the box is often quicker to configure and gives you more choice.

Then: read our Android TV box guide first
If you change televisions often

Each new TV needs a new setup and its own licence from the publisher. Factor that in.

Then: compare with a player on a box you can move
If several people use the TV

The setup happens once, then everyone just opens the app. A favourites list keeps it simple.

Then: plan a short favourites list together

What this means for you: IBO Player is a strong option when the television itself is the screen you want to use, without another box and another remote. It is a weaker option if your television is old, slow or likely to be replaced soon, because the setup and the publisher’s licence are tied to that one set. In that case, our Android TV box guide shows the alternative route, and the content you receive from us stays exactly the same either way.

There is no wrong answer here. Many homes start with IBO Player on the TV, add a phone as a second device for the kitchen, and never think about it again. Others try it for a few evenings, decide they prefer a grid guide on a box, and move their login across. Your plan with us does not care which route you take.

Before you open IBO Player

The setup goes quickly when everything is ready on the table. Gather these items first. Most failed attempts we see come from a missing item on this list, not from the app.

Keep a phone or computer next to the TV: you need both screens for this setup.

What to have ready

Two devices, one e-mail and a few minutes without interruptions. That is all the setup requires.

  • Your TV is connected to the internet and up to date.
  • IBO Player is installed from the TV’s official app store.
  • A phone or computer with a browser is next to you.
  • Your welcome e-mail is open, with your M3U link or your Xtream Codes details.
  • Pen and paper, or your phone camera, to note the two codes.
  • No other screen is playing with the same login right now.

If you have not ordered yet, the welcome e-mail is the piece you are missing. Pick a pack on the plans page; the access arrives within minutes of payment. If it does not, our activation guide explains what to check, starting with the spam folder.

Check the connection too. A television needs about 10 Mbps for HD, 15 Mbps for Full HD and 25 Mbps for 4K on that screen. Smart TVs are often far from the router and rely on Wi-Fi, which matters more than any setting inside the player.

Reading the IBO Player MAC address and device key

Install the app and open it. The start screen shows the MAC address and the device key. If you cannot see them, look in the app’s settings or information menu. The screen looks roughly like the mock-up below, though the publisher can change the layout at any time.

IBO Player › Start screen

shown on your TV

Reload

An illustration of the codes you need. Your own values appear on your television only.

Note both codes carefully. A photo of the screen with your phone is the safest way, because you can zoom in later. The MAC address is made of pairs of letters and numbers separated by colons. It only uses the digits 0 to 9 and the letters A to F. So a character that looks like an O is a zero, and a character that looks like an I or an L is a one.

Three reading tips

Read in pairs. Check the MAC address two characters at a time, from left to right, against your photo.

Watch the look-alikes. Zero and O, one and I, eight and B are the usual mix-ups on a TV font.

Copy the device key exactly. It is shorter, but one wrong character is enough to block the upload.

What this means for you: most “playlist not showing” messages we receive come from one wrong character in the MAC address. Taking a minute here saves a frustrating evening later.

Adding your login to IBO Player, step by step

You need the phone or computer for this part. The steps follow the usual layout of the publisher’s website. If the site changes, the logic stays the same: identify the device first, then add a playlist to it.

  1. Open the publisher’s official website. Use a browser on your phone or computer. Type the address yourself rather than following a link sent by message or found in a comment.
  2. Identify your device. Enter the MAC address and the device key shown on your TV, exactly as noted.
  3. Choose to add a playlist. Give it a short name you will recognize, such as “Northline”.
  4. Paste your link or details. Paste the M3U link from your e-mail. If the site offers an Xtream Codes option, you can enter the server URL, username and password instead.
  5. Save and wait for confirmation. Do not close the page until the site confirms the playlist was saved.
  6. Restart the app on the TV. Close IBO Player completely and open it again. Select the new playlist and let the channels and guide load.

The first load can take a while, because the catalogue is large and a television has less processing power than a box. Leave it alone until the categories appear. Opening and closing the app during the first load only restarts the process.

Need help with the codes? Send us a photo of the IBO Player start screen and your TV model. We check that your Northline IPTV login is active and correct, and we tell you which format to try. We cannot add the playlist on the publisher’s website for you, because that step uses your device’s codes and belongs to you.

M3U or Xtream Codes in IBO Player

Your welcome e-mail gives you both formats. On the publisher’s website you use whichever option it offers. Here is how the two compare on a television.

PointM3U linkXtream Codes
What you paste or typeOne long linkServer URL, username, password
Usually offered on the publisher’s siteYesOn some versions
Load time on a televisionCan be slower with a large listOften faster
Sorting of live TV, series and moviesDepends on the playlistSeparate sections

M3U is the usual route on IBO Player. If the site lets you enter Xtream Codes and the M3U list loads slowly on your TV, delete that playlist and add the Xtream Codes version instead. The content is identical; only the loading behaviour changes.

Whichever format you use, remember where it now lives. Once saved on the publisher’s site, your M3U link or Xtream Codes details are stored there under your TV’s codes. If you ever renew with new login details, or if we ask you to update them, you change them on that site, not in the TV’s menus. Keep a note of the playlist name you chose so you can find it quickly.

For a closer look at each format, read our M3U playlist guide, which includes tips for large lists on older televisions, and our Xtream Codes guide, which explains the three fields one by one.

The IBO Player licence, without surprises

IBO Player is not a one-time install with nothing more to do. After a starting period, the publisher asks for a licence to keep using the app on that device. You buy it from the publisher, through its official website. Check the current price there before you commit. We never quote it, because the publisher sets it and can change it.

What this means for you: you may end up holding two things with two different end dates, a licence from the publisher and a plan from us. They are not linked. Our plans never renew automatically and there is no contract, so nothing will be charged on our side when your duration ends. The publisher has its own terms for its licence; read them on its official website before you pay.

Before you pay the publisher

A licence is a commitment to one app on one television. Ask yourself three things first. Will this TV still be your main screen in the coming months? Does the household like the app after a few evenings of real use? Have you read the publisher’s own terms for the licence on its official website? If the answer to all three is yes, the licence is a straightforward decision. If one of them is a maybe, keep testing during the starting period, or try another player with the same login before you commit.

Compare plans

Two clocks: your licence and your Northline IPTV plan

Because the licence and the plan are separate, it helps to picture how they sit side by side over time. This is the typical sequence for a new IBO Player user.

  1. Day one

    Install and add the playlist

You install the app, note the codes, order your plan and add the playlist on the publisher’s site. The publisher’s starting period begins on its side.

  2. First evenings

Test the app on your TV

Browse live channels, series and movies. Decide whether the layout suits your household before the starting period ends.

  3. End of the starting period

    Decide on the licence

If you keep IBO Player on that TV, buy the licence from the publisher. If not, choose another player and add your login there.

  4. End of your plan

Renew with us, if you want to

The app keeps its licence but shows no content. Renew from the plans page. If your login details change, update the playlist on the publisher’s site.

A practical habit: write the end date of your Northline IPTV plan somewhere visible, since we never renew it for you. Many customers pick a 12-month IPTV subscription to line their plan up with a licence they intend to keep, while others start with a 1-month IPTV subscription to test the app before paying the publisher. Either choice works. Pick the one that matches how long you expect to use that TV.

Keep your IBO Player codes private

The two codes on your start screen are more sensitive than they look. Together they give access to the playlist settings of your television on the publisher’s website.

Treat the MAC address and device key like a house key. Anyone who has both can change the playlist on your TV. Never post them in a group, a forum or a comment, and never send them to a stranger who offers “help” or a “better playlist”. Your login details are for your household only: one pack includes one simultaneous connection, and sharing them with another home can cut your own viewing.

If you think someone else has your codes, look for an option in the app or on the publisher’s website to protect or reset the playlist. Then tell us, so we can check your Northline IPTV login on our side as well. When you send us a photo of your start screen for help, you are sending it to our support team only, through the channels on our contact page.

Signs that someone changed your playlist

A playlist you did not add appears in the app. The name of your playlist has changed. The channels you were watching yesterday are gone, while your Northline IPTV plan is still active. Any of these deserves a quick check. Reset or protect the playlist through the options the publisher offers, then write to us so we can confirm your login has not been used elsewhere.

Your codes open your TV. Your login opens your plan. Neither one belongs in a public message.

Making IBO Player comfortable on a big screen

Once the playlist loads, a few habits make daily use easier for everyone in the home. Menu names vary between versions, so look for the closest match in your app.

Build a favourites list

Mark the channels your household watches most. It turns a huge list into a short one.

Hide unused groups

If the app lets you hide categories, hide the ones nobody opens. Scrolling becomes faster.

Check the guide times

Set the TV’s time zone correctly first. Only then use any time shift in the app.

Lock what children should not see

If the app offers parental controls, set a code before younger viewers use it.

Restart after changes

After editing the playlist on the website, close the app fully and reopen it.

Match quality to your speed

If 4K stutters, choose the Full HD version of the channel while you check the network.

Guide times deserve a word, because Canada spans several time zones. If every programme looks shifted by the same amount, the TV’s own time zone is usually the cause. Fix it in the television’s settings, then reload the playlist. Our TV guide setup page explains the order of checks.

Connection and placement for a TV on Wi-Fi

Smart TVs are often the weakest link in a home network. They sit against a wall, sometimes inside a cabinet, far from the router. IBO Player can only play what the TV receives.

Television showing a loading wheel during a stream on a weak Wi-Fi signal
A TV far from the router is the most common reason a stream pauses.

Simple fixes that work

Before you change anything in the app, look at how the television reaches the internet. These steps are listed from the most effective to the least.

  • Use an Ethernet cable if the TV has a port.
  • On Wi-Fi, connect the TV to the 5 GHz band when it is close enough.
  • Use 2.4 GHz only if the TV is far away and 5 GHz drops.
  • Keep the router in the open, not behind the TV or in a cupboard.
  • Restart the router and the TV once in a while.

Speed per screen for your television

HD10 Mbps
Full HD15 Mbps
4K25 Mbps

Test the speed on the television itself if it has a browser or a speed test app in its store, in the evening. A test on your phone next to the router tells you little about the TV across the room. If you plan to watch the Ultimate 4K Pack, with 57,000+ 4K channels, the 25 Mbps figure for that screen matters most. Our 4K quality page explains what else a 4K setup needs.

IBO Player on Android devices

IBO Player is best known on Samsung and LG televisions, but the publisher also makes it for Android devices. The logic is the same there: the app shows its own codes, and you add the playlist through the publisher’s website. The device is simply different.

On an Android phone or tablet, this setup can feel like an extra step, since you could also type your login directly into a player such as IPTV Smarters Pro. Some people still prefer IBO Player on every screen so that the layout looks the same everywhere in the house. That is a reasonable choice, as long as you remember that each device has its own codes and, after the starting period, its own licence with the publisher.

  • Install the app from the device’s official app store, never from a link or a file.
  • Note the codes shown on that device; they differ from your TV’s codes.
  • Add the playlist on the publisher’s site under the new codes.
  • Close the app on the TV before you play on the phone or tablet.

What this means for you: using IBO Player on three devices means three setups on the publisher’s site and, potentially, three licences. Using a typed-in player on the phone and IBO Player only on the TV is often simpler. Compare both before you pay the publisher anything.

A first evening with IBO Player, start to finish

Here is what a smooth first evening looks like, from the moment the access e-mail arrives to the first channel on the television. Use it as a mental rehearsal before you start.

You order a pack on our site and pay once, by card or PayPal. Within minutes, the welcome e-mail lands in your inbox. You open it on your phone and leave it there. On the TV, you open the official app store, search for IBO Player, check the publisher name and install it. The app opens on a screen with two codes. You take a photo of that screen.

On the phone, you open a new browser tab, type the publisher’s address yourself and find the option to add a playlist. You enter the MAC address from your photo, two characters at a time, then the device key. You give the playlist a name, paste the M3U link from your e-mail and save. The site confirms the upload.

Back on the TV, you close IBO Player completely and open it again. The playlist appears. You select it and leave the remote on the table while the categories and the guide load. When the list is ready, you open a live channel, then a series, then a movie. Everything plays. You mark a handful of favourites, check that the guide shows the right times for your province, and hand the remote to whoever is waiting.

If any step of that evening goes differently, stop at that step rather than pushing on. Note what the screen says, take a photo, and send it to us with your TV model. One precise message lets us tell you straight away whether the issue sits with your login, with the codes, or with the publisher’s side.

Fixing common IBO Player issues

Most problems fall into a handful of patterns. Match yours to a card below, try the advice, and move to the next step only if it does not help.

If the playlist does not appear

Close the app fully and reopen it. Then compare the MAC address on the website with the one on the TV, pair by pair.

Then: re-add the playlist with the correct codes
If the playlist loads but channels do not play

Another device may be using your login. Close the player on every other screen in the home and try again.

Then: see our cannot-connect guide
If loading takes a very long time

A large M3U list is heavy for some televisions. Try the Xtream Codes option if the site offers it.

Then: give the first load time to finish
If the app asks for activation

The publisher’s starting period has ended on that device. This is between you and the publisher.

Then: check the current price on the app’s official website
If one channel shows a black screen

Try another channel in the same category, then a movie. If only one fails, tell us its name and category.

Then: see our black screen guide
If the picture pauses often

Check the TV’s connection, not the app. Move to cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

Then: see our buffering guide

The full troubleshooting pages are on our help page, including a login that will not connect, a black screen and buffering. Each one starts with the checks you can do yourself and ends with what to send us.

A new TV, a second TV or a reset app

Because IBO Player ties the playlist to a device, a few situations need a fresh setup. None of them affects your plan with us.

You replace your television. The new TV has a new MAC address and device key. Install IBO Player on it, note the new codes and add your playlist again on the publisher’s site. The licence on the old TV belongs to the old device, under the publisher’s terms.

You add a second television. Each TV is set up separately and, after the starting period, needs its own licence from the publisher. Both can hold your login, but with one pack only one of them plays at a time. If you want two screens at once, ask support for the conditions and the price.

The app was reset or reinstalled. Check whether the MAC address is unchanged. If it is, reloading the playlist from the app is often enough. If the codes changed, set it up again from the publisher’s site.

Deep dive: why a playlist sometimes goes to the wrong place

The publisher’s website does not see your television. It only sees the codes you type. If one character of the MAC address is wrong, the site may still accept it, because it looks like a valid address for some other device. The playlist is then saved, but for a television that is not yours. That is why the fix for a missing playlist is almost always a careful comparison of the codes, character by character, rather than a change of settings in the app.

What we can do for your IBO Player setup

We want the first evening to work. Here is exactly where our help starts and where the publisher’s takes over.

Our support can

  • Confirm your Northline IPTV login is active.
  • Resend your access e-mail if it is missing.
  • Check the codes on your photo against what you typed.
  • Tell you whether to try M3U or Xtream Codes.
  • Walk you through the steps on the publisher’s site.

Only the publisher can

  • Sell or activate the IBO Player licence.
  • Change or reset data stored on its website.
  • Fix a bug or a crash inside the app.
  • Move a licence from one television to another.
  • Change the app’s menus or layout.

What to include when you write to us

  • Your TV brand and model, as written in its settings menu.
  • A photo of the IBO Player start screen with both codes visible.
  • The format you used on the publisher’s site: M3U or Xtream Codes.
  • The exact message the app shows, or a photo of it.
  • The e-mail address you used to order, so we can find your plan.

Our support works 7 days a week by e-mail and on WhatsApp at +33 6 44 65 43 13, in English and French. For TV-specific advice, including when an external box might suit you better, see our IPTV on smart TVs guide. If the TV is not your only screen, our devices overview compares every supported option.

IBO Player words, explained

The app and the publisher’s website use a few terms that are not obvious at first. Here they are in plain language.

MAC address
The identifier of your device, shown as pairs of characters separated by colons.
Device key
A second code that proves you hold the device. Needed with the MAC address on the publisher’s site.
Playlist
The list of channels, series and movies that your login opens, added once per device.
Starting period
The time the publisher lets you use the app before asking for a licence. Its terms are set by the publisher.
Licence
A payment to the publisher to keep using IBO Player on one device. Never part of your order with us.
Reload
Fetching the playlist again from the publisher’s site, usually after a change.

One more term causes confusion: “account”. On the publisher’s website, any account or device page belongs to you and to the publisher. On our side, your account is simply your order and the login it produced. The two never meet, which is exactly why we cannot see or edit anything stored on the publisher’s site, and why the publisher cannot see or edit your plan with us.

FAQ

Is the IBO Player licence included in my Northline IPTV pack?

No. The licence is sold by the app publisher. Check the current price on the app’s official website. Your pack covers the content and our support.

Where do I find the MAC address and the device key?

On the IBO Player start screen. If they are not shown there, open the app’s settings or information menu.

Why does a character in my MAC address look like the letter O?

It is a zero. A MAC address only uses the digits 0 to 9 and the letters A to F, so there is never a letter O in it.

Can I use IBO Player on two televisions?

Yes, but each TV has its own MAC address, so each needs its own setup and, after the starting period, its own licence. Only one TV can play at a time with one pack.

Can you upload my playlist for me?

No. The upload happens on the publisher’s website, using your device’s codes. We can check your login details and guide you step by step.

Should I use M3U or Xtream Codes in IBO Player?

Use whichever the publisher’s site offers. M3U is the usual option. If Xtream Codes is available, it often loads faster on televisions.

Does renewing my licence renew my Northline IPTV plan?

No. The two are separate. Our plans never renew automatically. Renew your plan from the plans page when you want to continue.

What happens when my subscription ends?

The app stays installed but shows no content. Renew from the plans page. If your login details change, update the playlist on the publisher’s website.

I replaced my TV. Do I need to set everything up again?

Yes, on the publisher’s side. The new TV has new codes. Your Northline IPTV login stays the same and works on the new TV once the playlist is added.

Is IBO Player made by Northline IPTV?

No. It is made by an independent publisher. We test our login with it and write this guide, but we do not control the app, its website or its licence.
